Version 2.0.0 · released

formerly WDiff32 Diffoniq · made in Austria since 1995

Diffoniq 2.0 is here.

Diffoniq is the next generation of WDiff32 — a small, native Windows tool that shows two text files, folders or archives side by side, differences marked line by line, changes dragged across from one side to the other. No extracting, no account, no cloud. Version 2.0 is out: download the full-featured 30-day evaluation, or buy a licence.

Three everyday cases

The daily “what changed?” — at the speed of a native Windows program.

Release check

Compare the shipped ZIP against the build folder before it goes out — every file, without unpacking.

Backup vs. backup

Two archive snapshots of the same project: see exactly which files changed between them — renames included.

Config drift

Exports from two servers side by side — differences highlighted down to the line, then synced with a click.

What it looks like

Four everyday views, straight from the released build — default colours, default font.

Diffoniq comparing the 7z archive release-1.9.7z on the left with the folder release on the right: four pairs marked as different, two files only on the right
An archive against a folder. The 7z opens like a directory; four files differ, two exist only in the folder — nothing was extracted.
Directory comparison of server against laptop with the ignore-time rule active; the status bar reads 2 identical, 2 different, 1 left only, 1 right only
Two trees, ignore rules on. Files that differ only in their timestamp count as identical; the status bar sums it up.
Directory comparison in which report-q3.txt on the left is matched with report-2026-q3.txt on the right as one renamed pair
A rename is a rename. report-q3.txt became report-2026-q3.txt — one pair with the name difference marked, not a deletion plus an addition.
Two binary firmware files compared: content differs, first difference at offset 0x64, the differing bytes highlighted
Binary files, summarised. Size, the first differing offset and the bytes around it — one pass, no raw-byte line diff.

What's new in 2.0

Same everyday “what changed?” tool, wider scope.

ZIP .zip · .jar
7-Zip .7z — new in 2.0
RAR .rar — new in 2.0
tar .tar · .gz · .bz2 · .xz · .zst — new
CAB .cab — new in 2.0
ISO .iso — new in 2.0

Archives behave like folders

Open an archive as if it were a directory and compare it against a folder or another archive — without extracting anything first.

Rename detection

Renamed or moved files are matched by content, so a rename shows up as a rename — not as one delete plus one add.

Edit while you compare

Mark areas, copy them to the other side, paste lines from the clipboard, undo — then save. Merging without leaving the diff.

Recursive directory compare

Whole trees side by side, with sorting, subfolder depth, and ignore rules for time, size, case or singles.

Binary comparison

When a text diff isn't the right lens, Ctrl+B checks two files byte by byte.

Yours, locally

No account, no telemetry, no cloud. Your files never leave your machine.
